First Grade is learning that tools help us do work, make our lives easier, and allow us to create magnificent things! We are also learning that initiative, collaboration, perseverance, and responsibility help us learn and do our work! We have been planning and working to make new things that our classroom needs! One group decided to make the C and K Rules posters to help them remember the rules when they are reading! Another group decided to Make a Number Resource because we are having trouble writing our numbers the proper way. We also needed to create a space for our Addition Expression Wall to go with Math. They enjoyed putting magnets on the back of cards and finding a space for our wall! The last group used the Birthday Board from last year's group- and they created cupcakes for each student to create their own birthday cupcake to display in our class! All of the students did an amazing job! I will be using these for many years to come!

Yesterday was International Dot Day in honor of Peter H Reynolds's book, The Dot. This wonderful picture book encourages children to try new or challenging things, to explore their creativity, and to have confidence in their abilities. Some of our classes started with a mark to see where it would take them. Be sure to mark November 27th on your calendar for Calhoun's Art Show!
